Sam Chatmon (guitar & vocals) performs outside his home in Hollandale Mississippi during August 1978 filmed by Alan Lomax, John Bishop, and Worth Long.
“Sittin’ On Top of the World” was the Mississippi Sheiks biggest hit, variations of which have been performed by countless others since. The song written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon was first recorded by the group on February 17, 1930. Although absent from the original session Sam plays this Sheiks’ hit for Alan Lomax and company with an additional verse of his own.
