During a performance at the Blues and Gospel Train concert held in Manchester, England on May 7, 1964 Sister Rosetta Tharpe (guitar & vocals) delivers a truly magical rendition of the spiritual “This Train” featuring Otis Spann (piano), Ransom Knowling (bass), and Willie Smith (drums).

One of the most successful gospel singers of the late 1930’s was Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Her music would straddle the fence between sacred and secular when she began performing in nightclubs and concert halls. Rosetta first gained mainstream popularity with her 1939 hit “This Train.”
