Jessie Mae Hemphill (guitar, vocals, & tambourine) is featured performing in Atlanta, Georgia at the National Downhome Blues Festival in 1984.

Following her first sessions in 1979 for the University Of Memphis’ High Water label Jessie Mae Hemphill launched her recording career. In 1981 her first full-length album, “She-Wolf,” was licensed from High Water and released on France’s Vogue Records. She received the W. C. Handy Award for best traditional female blues artist in 1987 and 1988. Jessie Mae’s first full length American album, “Feelin’ Good” was released in 1990 winning her another Handy Award for best acoustic album.
