It is often forgotten that during his last period, Benny Goodman often utilized the talents of some of the top up-and-coming young swing players including trumpeter Warren Vache, tenor-saxophonist Scott Hamilton, trombonist Dan Barrett, and Ken Peplowski (who played alto in Goodman’s last big band).
From a 1982 concert, Goodman featured trumpeter Warren Vache (who was already a star) on “I’m Old Fashioned.”
Vache is accompanied on a relaxed version of the standard by pianist John Bunch, guitarist Chris Flory, bassist Phil Flanagan, and drummer Mel Lewis while tenor-saxophonist Scott Hamilton and Goodman himself look on.
