The British Jazz 625 series hosted the pianist Oscar Peterson and his trio on the episode of Oct. 1, 1964.
Joined by bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen, Peterson is in typically miraculous form, really ripping through the opener, “Hallelujah Time.”
The tight and virtuosic trio also performs Dizzy Gillespie’s “Con Alma,” a relatively tender (at first) version of Bill Evans’ “Waltz For Debbie,” a very rapid “Cubano Chant,” and “Yours Is My Heart Alone.”
When it came to swinging hard yet sounding relaxed at extremely fast tempos, very few could compete with the remarkable Oscar Peterson.
