One of Cole Porter’s best songs from the 1950s, “All Of You” was composed in 1954, was sung by Fred Astaire in the film Silk Stockings, was first played in jazz by pianist Ahmad Jamal, and became a jazz standard after it was recorded by the Miles Davis Quintet in 1956.
66 years later, it still sounds fresh and lively during this swinging version taken from one of pianist Emmet Cohen’s Livestreams.
Cohen, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Kyle Poole welcome guest altoist Patrick Bartley and the musical chemistry between the players is apparent.
Bartley plays a warm solo that is both boppish and personal (he has a great tone) and Cohen recalls Bill Evans in spots while typically sounding like himself.
Cole Porter would have enjoyed this tasteful version of his classic.
