Deep Groovin’ – 1989

Lenny White

A funky jam with an all-star lineup

Lenny White will probably always be best known as the drummer with Chick Corea’s Return To Forever, but he has also led groups on an occasional basis in his career.

In 1989 he headed an all-star unitt that he called his Manhattan Project.

White is joined by Wayne Shorter on both tenor and soprano, pianist Michel Petrucciani, former RTF member electric bassist Stanley Clarke, and both Gil Goldstein and Pete Levin on keyboardists for “Deep Groovin.’”

The funky piece has some similarities to “Summertime” and is highlighted by Shorter’s passionate soprano playing.
