The Best Things In Life Are Free – 2015

Rhythm Future Quartet

Swinging gypsy jazz featuring violinist Jason Arick

When Django Reinhardt passed away in 1953, few others were playing in his style which was largely neglected for a few decades.

But in the late 1980s and the 1990s, at first in Europe and then in the U.S., scores of young talents arrived on the scene who could play guitar like Django, and violin influenced by Stephane Grappelli.

The style became known as “Gypsy Jazz.”

From 2015, a version of “The Best Things In Life Are Free” features some superior violin playing by Jason Arick and guitar work from Olli Soikkeli; they are joined by rhythm guitarist Max O’Rourke and bassist Greg Loughman.

Django would have enjoyed this performance.
