After a lifetime of singing and playing trumpet, Louis Armstrong had his biggest hit (a real surprise to him) with “Hello Dolly” which he first recorded in December 1963.
After the song caught on, he performed it at virtually every concert for the rest of his life.
On Oct. 4, 1964, a few months after it was #1 on the charts, Louis Armstrong played “Hello Dolly” on the Ed Sullivan Show.
This slightly unusual version, which has Armstrong joined by female models wearing outfits from the show, includes a new introduction and some fine singing and trumpet playing (with plenty of high notes) by Satch.
