Drummer-composer-arranger-bandleader Art Lillard, who has been playing professionally since 1970, has led many fine bands since that time including the Blue Heaven swing sextet, the On Time trio and quartet, and the Art Lillard Duo.
Since the late 1990s he has also led his Heavenly Big Band;, an ensemble that has recorded two CDs.
The 2011 version of the group performs a spirited version of Thelonious Monk’s “Evidence” which is based on the swing standard “Just You, Just Me.”
Featured on this performance are singer Mary Foster Conklin, altoist Tom Abbott, trombonist Jack Davis, pianist Ted Kooshian, altoist Bob Mover, tenor-saxophonist Jim Clouse, and a tradeoff by trumpeters Mark McGowan and Walt Szymanski.
