Painter Dave Young during 1954-64 had a loft in New York that served as a meeting place and jam session for many top jazz musicians.
This excellent mini-documentary by CNN has some of the musicians of the era (including Bob Brookmeyer and Bill Crow) being interviewed, plenty of vintage photos, and previously unissued musical excerpts that were taped at the loft to tell the full story of the magical sessions.
This is 15 minutes well spent.
