Duke Ellington wrote the score for surprisingly few movies in his lifetime.
In fact, it was not until 1959’s Anatomy Of A Murder that he had a chance to compose a full-length score.
Around the time of the film’s release, Ellington appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, playing piano on brief versions of the theme from “Anatomy Of A Murder” and (assisted by unseen background singers and an orchestra) “Flirtibird.”
