Charles McPherson has been one of the top bop-oriented saxophonists ever since his emergence on the scene in the mid-1960s.

While influenced by Charlie Parker, McPherson has long had his own recognizable sound with the tradition.

From an April 21, 2013 concert presented by the Tucson Jazz Society, here is McPherson’s solo on a rapid version of “Anthropology,” with backing by pianist Jeff Haskell, bassist Scott Black, and drummer Pete Swan.
