Quite a tour-de-force for Clarke on acoustic bass

Originally famous as one of the first and greatest electric bassists in jazz, Stanley Clarke has spent parts of his career playing fusion (most notably with Return To Forever), funk, and commercial music.
However, he has always been a masterful jazz improviser and is equally skilled on acoustic bass where his virtuosity can be breathtaking.
On Aug. 10, 2003, at the Newport Jazz Festival, Clarke performs “Bass Folk Song” unaccompanied as a concise suite, covering a variety of moods, at one point playing the bass as if it were drums and showing throughout that few are on his level.
