Composed by Benny Golson, “Blues March” was first recorded by Blue Mitchell for his 1958 album “Bix Six.” Within that year “Blues March” would be picked up by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers for their album “Moanin.”

Benny Golson conceived of this work to be played as if one were a member of an American Legion band. It would become a staple of the Messengers’ set.

Personnel:

Art Blakey, drums
Lee Morgan, trumpet
