While he could swing hard, trumpeter Claudio Roditi (1946-2020) always had a thoughtful style and a tender tone.

Born and raised in Brazil, Roditi began to make a strong impression on the American jazz scene in the mid-1970s and along the way he worked with Paquito D’Rivera, Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Orchestra, and as the leader of his own combos.

Roditi was equally skilled at playing bop-oriented jazz, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban music.

This performance of “Body And Soul” from 2007 has Claudio Roditi in top form while joined by pianist Helio Alves, bassist Leonardo Cioglia, and drummer Duduka da Fonseca.
