Guitarist Pat Metheny not only developed an instantly recognizable and personal sound on the guitar but, in his early unit, created unclassifiable music that was filled with warm atmospheric melodies and a distinctive group sound.
“First Circle” from 1992 is very much a feature for the very original pianist Lyle Mays who is heard along with Metheny, bassist Steve Rodby, drummer Paul Wertico, percussionist Armando Marcal ,and the wordless singing of Pedro Aznar (who operates very much as part of the ensemble).
The music is cinematic, creative, and builds in an effective and memorable fashion.
