Big Joe Turner (1911-85) formed his shouting blues style in Kansas City by the mid-1930s and it never went out of style.
Whether singing with pianist Pete Johnson, rock and roll groups in the 1950s, or jazz all-stars two decades later, Turner’s exuberant singing always sounded fresh and timeless.
In 1966 he toured Europe as part of an extensive blues show.
Joined by pianist Little Brother Montgomery, guitarist Otis Rush, electric bassist Jack Myers, and drummer Fred Below, Turner belts out the blues on “Flipo Flop Fly.”
