Fostina Dixon was born in Wilmington, Delaware on Aug. 16, studying woodwinds and saxophones from an early age.

She played with the Delaware All-State Band and toured Europe with the American Young Symphonic Orchestra.

Featured on soprano, alto and baritone saxophones, flute, clarinet and as a singer, she has performed with such notables as Gil Evans, Roy Ayers, Abbey Lincoln, Melba Liston, Cab Calloway, Slide Hampton, Frank Foster (one of her teachers), Joe Williams, the Gerald Wilson Big Band, Nancy Wilson, Prince, and Marvin Gaye, touring with the latter for four years.

She leads her group Winds Of Change and has performed all over the East Coast and Europe; in addition Ms. Dixon has been an important educator and founded the Wilmington Youth Band in 2004.
