Stephane Grappelli, one of jazz’s greatest violinists, had a fairly low profile in the 1950s and ‘60s, a period that was after Django Reinhardt’s death and before the violinist became a world traveler.

Primarily based in France during that era, Grappelli was still playing in prime form (he never declined) as can be seen on this 1959 appearance on French television.

Grappelli performs “Honeysuckle Rose” with the fine guitarist Sacha Distel, pianist Raymond Le Senechal, rhythm guitarist Paul Piguillern, bassist Marcel Dutrieux, and drummer Roger Paraboschi.
