Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Song, was at the peak of his powers at the time that she appeared on a Milton Berle television special in 1958.

On “How High The Moon,” after the first chorus, Ella and a backup band double the tempo and she scats up a storm.

A second performance, a warm rendition of “It Might As Well Be Spring,” displays Ella’s ballad artistry.
