Freddie Hendrix

A powerful trumpet feature

Benny Golson’s “I Remember Clifford,” which he composed to pay tribute to the recently deceased trumpeter Clifford Brown, was first recorded by Donald Byrd in 1957 and was also recorded within the year by Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, and even singers Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae.

It has mostly been a feature for trumpeters ever since and in 2020 Freddie Hendrix made his own powerful statement on the ballad.

With accompaniment by pianist John Colianni (who has a short solo), bassist Mike Boone, and drummer Wayne Henderson, Hendrix pays tribute to one of the finest trumpeters in jazz history.
