Singer Etta Jones was born on November 25, 1928 in Aiken, South Carolina.

Jones was a gifted jazz singer known for her warm, soulful voice and emotional depth. She launched her career in the 1940s, touring with Buddy Johnson’s band, and gained prominence with her debut solo album Don’t Go to Strangers (1960), which became a commercial success and earned a Grammy nomination.

Throughout her five-decade career, Jones captivated audiences with her ability to blend jazz, blues, and gospel influences. She recorded over two dozen albums and frequently collaborated with saxophonist Houston Person. Known for her interpretations of jazz standards and ballads, Etta Jones left a lasting impact on the jazz world, celebrated for her unique phrasing and heartfelt delivery.
