Terell Stafford was originally a classical trumpeter but switched to jazz by the time he played with the University of Maryland’s jazz band.

Along the way he has worked with McCoy Tyner, the Clayton Brothers, Steve Turre, Russell Malone and many others, often performing boppish straight ahead jazz.

Stafford has generally led his own groups in recent years in addition to becoming an influential educator at Temple University.

On this version of “I’ll Remember April” from 2016, the trumpeter takes a swinging solo in a trio with pianist Randy Halberstadt and bassist Phil Sparks.
