I’m Getting Sentimental Over You – 1964

Jim Hall

Relaxed yet quietly inventive playing by the brilliant guitarist

Jim Hall (1930-2013) was one of the most subtle of all guitarists, playing quietly and usually in a relaxed fashion yet always filling his improvisations with creativity and surprises.

In his career he was a major asset to such groups as those led by Chico Hamilton, Jimmy Giuffre, Sonny Rollins and Art Farmer in addition to his many small combos.

On this intimate rendition from 1964, which has Hall joined by bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Pete La Roca, he takes the Tommy Dorsey swing era theme song “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” and makes every note count in exquisite fashion.
