Indiana

Louis Armstrong

The 1965 Louis Armstrong All Stars play a concise but hot version of “Indiana.”

Louis Armstrong formed his six-piece All Stars in 1947 and had tremendous success for decades.

For quite a few years, Armstrong used “Indiana” as his opening number.

This version, from 1965, is briefer than most but manages to fit in solo space for all of the musicians except the leader.

Even so, Satch’s ensemble playing steals the show.

Personnel:

Louis Armstrong, trumpet
Big Chief Russell Moore, trombone
Eddie Shu, clarinet
Billy Kyle, piano
Arvell Shaw, bass
Danny Barcelona, drums
