Pianist Cyrus Chestnut has a gospel background, was classically trained, and has long since developed his own unique sound in jazz.
Although he has played with Wynton Marsalis, Betty Carter, Terence Blanchard, and other notable figures in the jazz world early in his career, he is most frequently heard leading his own trio.
Chestnut, who has released over 30 albums in his career, is a skilled two-handed pianist capable of creating the sound of a full band when playing solo.
Proof of his talent can be heard in this 2016 version of “It Could Happen To You,” where Chestnut maintains the essence of the melody while adding a contemporary touch and swinging soulfully.
