Troy Andrews (“Trombone Shorty”) is one of the best-known New Orleans musicians of the past 15 years, playing modern and traditional jazz, r&b and funk.
He started playing trombone when he was four, developed quickly, and led his own band when he was just six.
At the age of 13 in 2009, he had the opportunity to perform onstage with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra.
After Marsalis launches “Joe Avery’s Blues” (which has trombonist Wycliffe Gordon switching to sousaphone), Trombone Shorty takes a long and confident solo while Marsalis beams, knowing that the youngster was on his way to becoming a star.
