A rousing Latin jazz number
Pete Escovedo has been leading his Latin Jazz Big Band in the San Francisco Bay area off and on since the 1980s.
This performance from 1987’s Latina Familia Concert has Escovedo’s group playing the relaxed but stirring “La Cuna.”
Pianist Rebecca Mauleon brings the song in, takes a strong solo, and inspires the rhythm section which also includes Sheila E. on congas and percussionist John Santos.
