Bassist Ron Carter has had quite a career, appearing on more recording sessions since his emergence on the scene over 60 years ago than any other musician in history.

While he became amous as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet of 1964-68, Carter has appeared on recordings with nearly every significant music artist, whether as a sideman, a studio musician, or as a leader of dozens of rewarding recordings.

His recent release with the Skyline Trio (which received a Grammy nomination) teams the bassist with two other maseterful musicians with endless resumes: drummer Jack DeJohnette and pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

The background behind the trio album is shared on this video of their first session together, along with the music of “Lagrimas Negras.”

The Ron Carter Newsletter is recommended for anyone interested in jazz or music in general for it includes playing and performance tips, stories behind Carter’s projects and recordings, video messages and much more.

By subscribing to his newsletter, one will get invitations to become part of Zoom calls with the great bassist where viewers can ask questions directly from him.
