The leading jazz violinist since the mid-1990s, Regina Carter excels at whatever genre she explores, from swing and bop to soul, funk, classical-oriented explorations, and World Music.
From the 1998 Newport Jazz Festival, she is seen leading a quintet also including guitarist Rodney Jones, pianist Werner “Vana” Gierig, bassist Daryl Hall, and drummer Alvester Garnett.
They perform Eddie Harris’ catchy one-chord riff “Listen Here” with first pianist Gierig and then Carter building up the simple piece to a very passionate level.
