The Beloit Memorial High School Jazz Band perform “Memphis Blues” at the 2015 Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival.

“Memphis Blues” was written by W. C. Handy in 1912. The group here perform Duke Ellington’s famous arrangement.

Essentially Ellington is an annual program in which fifteen of North America’s best high school jazz bands perform for a panel of judges. Occurring in May, the competition includes jam sessions, workshops, an awards ceremony, and a closing performance from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
