Though 33 years had past since its composition, Duke Ellington continued to perform “Rockin’ in Rhythm,” which very much evoked the era of swing. Written by Ellington, Irving Mills, sax player Harry Carney, the band’s performances of this song seemed to get slower, ripening as the years passed.

But Ellington stayed relevant all the same – both to more conventional, pop jazz artists, as well as the experimenters.

Sam Woodyard is on drums.
