Hank Jones (1918-2010) was a classy pianist, one whose style was influenced by both bop and swing.
Like Teddy Wilson, Jones gave one the impression that he never played a wrong note or one that lacked taste.
With bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Kilson, Jones performs a relaxed version of Horace Silver’s “Nica’s Dream.”
As was true in performances during his last decade, nearly every song by Jones’ trio included solos by bass and drums; Mraz and Kilson rise to the occasion on this rendition, clearly enjoying playing with the 90 year pianist.
