She has long been one of jazz’s top organists but Rhoda Scott rarely ranks high in American jazz polls.
The reason is that in 1967 when she was 29 years old, she moved permanently to France and has only visited the U.S. on rare occasions since.
Being away from her homeland for all of these decades has certainly not resulted in her often-rollicking and always joyful music becoming stale or predictable.
This performance from 2022 finds the 84-year old clearly enjoying playing “One Mint Julep” with her trio in her timeless style.
