Matthew Shipp (who was born in 1960) has been a major jazz pianist since the 1990s.

While his playing has the potential freedom of a Cecil Taylor, he also has his own musical personality, utilizes space creatively, is not averse to utilizing melodies, and is well acquainted with earlier stylists.

During this thought-provoking improvisation, Shipp is joined by bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Whit Dickey.
