A unique musician and singer, Nina Simone straddled the boundaries between jazz, folk music, the blues, classical, r&b and civil rights songs, always going her own way.

She was having a late-career renaissance when she starred at the Montreal International Jazz Festival on July 2, 1992.

Accompanied by drums, congas and tambourine, Simone challenges the audience and then herself during a hypnotic and powerful vocal version of “See Line Woman.”

Although she does not play piano during this piece, it really is not needed for Nina Simone’s intense vocalizing and the rhythmic singing of her sidemen make this a rather rousing performance.
