One of the giants of the piano, Fred Hersch began his career in 1978 with Art Farmer and has been leading consistently inventive albums of his own on a regular basis since 1984.

At the Funchal Jazz Festival in Portugal in July 2016, Hersch performed a medley of “Some Other Time” (the 1944 Jules Styne song, not the composition by Leonard Bernstein) and Thelonious Monk’s “We See” with bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson.

Hersch displays plenty of quiet feeling on “Some Other Time” while he turns “We See” inside out in swinging fashion.
