Recorded in 1970 by Freddie Hubbard for his eponymous album, the track “Straight Life” was originally conceived as 17 minutes long. This award ceremony version is relatively curtailed.
Just three years before this performance Herbie Hancock and Hubbard had received a Grammy for Hubbard’s (arguably far more famous) album “First Light.”
