Jelly Roll Morton talked about it: “The Spanish Tinge.”

From the beginning, it was an essential part of jazz.

Fact of history: Before the trade embargo against Cuba, Havana was New Orleans’s most important trade partner. If New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, then Havana is at least a cousin (and according to New Orleans master drummer Ed Palmer an older brother.)
