Clarinetist Benny Goodman and vibraphonist Red Norvo were old friends by 1960.

They had first recorded together on a Norvo session in 1933, the vibraphonist was part of Goodman’s sextet off and on during 1944-47, they had a reunion on the Swing Into Spring television special in 1958, and during 1959-60 Norvo was part of Goodman’s nonet.

From the Ed Sullivan Show in 1960, Goodman and Norvo star on an uptempo version of “The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise” that also features drummer John Markham in a sextet with pianist John Bunch, guitarist Jimmy Wyble and bassist Red Wooten.

The interplay and expressions of Goodman and Norvo are fun to watch.
