A fine version of the Hank Mobley song

Guitarist Gary McCauley was originally from Canada and played rock guitar before taking 25 years off and settling in Cincinnati.

When he re-emerged, he was a jazz artist, one with a mellow but solidly swinging style.

For this version of Hank Mobley’s “This Is Dig Of You,” McCauley is joined by bassist Eddie Brookshire, drummer Alan Topolski, and most notably the great tenor-saxophonist J.D. Allen.

Allen is the main soloist on the swinging performance, hinting in spots at Sonny Stitt and particularly John Coltrane but playing with his own musical personality, giving one the impression that he could solo endlessly without running out of creative ideas.
