Clarinetist Anat, trumpeter Avashi and soprano-saxophonist Yuval Cohen occasionally team up as the Three Cohens.
The talented siblings often play more modern music but they are also quite familiar with swing and Dixieland as they show on this version of “Tiger Rag” (arranged by Oded Lev-Ari) with the WDR Big Band.
After an ominous beginning and a melody statement influenced by their Israeli heritage, each of the Cohens gets a chance to swing with Anat being quite enthusiastic throughout, Avishai easily adapting his playing to the style, and Yuval getting to solo partly over a stop-time rhythm.
Trombonist Andy Hunter and drummer Hans Dekker also have their spots while bassist John Goldsby clearly cannot stop smiling during this joyful performance.
