Eddie Palmieri, who has long been one of Latin music’s top pianists (whether playing Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa, or music that falls in between), is most famous for leading exciting bands during the past 60 years.
He is rarely heard as a solo pianist, which makes his Tiny Desk concert in 2016 a treat.
Palmieri performs three of his originals that cover a variety of moods, and shows how he uses the inspiration of McCoy Tyner and to a lesser extent Herbie Hancock to stretch the boundaries of Latin jazz while still retaining its rhythms.
