Since the 1980s, Eddie Daniels has been one of jazz’s greatest clarinetists, able to make the near-impossible sound effortless.
Also a superb tenor-saxophonist, Daniels has recorded in a variety of settings through the years although not that often as a clarinetist with a big band.
On this performance with Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band which has the leader-arranger-composer on piano, Daniels plays rapid lines during a piece that explores several moods and is topped off by an outstanding cadenza.
