Trumpeter John Daversa has gained a strong reputation as a versatile and skilled arranger-composer, one who leads his own big band in the Los Angeles area.

Renee Olstead has been an actress from the age of eight, she recorded a well-received album as a jazz singer when she was 15, and has since been successful in her two overlapping careers.

In 2012 at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood, the 23-year old Olstead was a guest with John Daversa’s small group, a unit also including altoist Katisse Buckingham, tenor-saxophonist Robby Marshall, keyboardist Tommy King, bassist Jerry Watts, and drummer Gene Coye.

Renee Olstead performs a soulful number, “You’ve Got That Thing,” with Daversa taking a fine trumpet solo.
