Featured in England on the 1964 American Folk Blues Fetival tour Sugar Pie Desanto sings “Baby What You Want Me To Do” accompanied by Hubert Sumlin (guitar), Willie Dixon (bass), and Clifton James (drums).
Sugar Pie Desanto’s real name was Umpeylia Marsema Balinton. She began her professional singing career in 1955 traveling with the Johnny Otis Revue and it was Otis came up with her stage name. She gained national attention when her single “I Want to Know” reached #4 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1960. In 1962 after the dissolution of her marriage to Pee Wee Kingsley Desanto moved to Chicago and singed with Chess records.
