Abdullah Ibrahim has had a productive career since leaving his native South Africa (due to apartheid) in the early 1960s.
As he entered his eighties, his playing (which could be quite fiery in the past) became gentler and more introspective as he looks back over his life.
After beginning his solo piano set with a brief “Blue Bolero,” the 87-year old talks a little and then performs “Signal On The Hill” and “Once Upon A Midnight,” essentially thinking aloud at the piano while creating musical wisdom.
