Gerry Mulligan (1927-96) was the best known baritone-saxophonist in jazz history and one of its finest players, in addition to being a talented composer and arranger.

While Mulligan became famous in the 1950s for leading pianoless quartets, in his later years he often utilized a piano in his groups.

In 1991, his trio was comprised of pianist Bill Mays, bassist Dean Johnson, and drummer Dave Ratajezak.

They perform “Line For Lyons,” a song that Mulligan had been playing for nearly 40 years but never grew tired of, as one can hear during his solo and trades with his sidemen; Mays takes an excellent solo too
