The multi-instrumentalist Andy Schumm is one of the most talented musicians in classic 1920s jazz today.
Arguably his best instrument is the cornet as Schumm shows on this tribute to Bix Beiderbecke’s 1927 version of “At The Jazz Band Ball.”
He is joined by a very skilled group of musicians that also includes trombonist Jim Fryer, clarinetist Lars Frank, pianist David Boeddinghaus, bass saxophonist Robert Fowler, and drummer Josh Duffee.
Schumm, who at that point in time looked a bit like Bix Beiderbecke, leads his group through a version of “At The Jazz Band Ball” that pays homage to Bix without being a strict recreation of his original recording from 89 years earlier.
